Young People’s Volunteering– The Drop-In offers many opportunities for the young people to volunteer within the organisation. This can be by working alongside a youth worker during a Drop in Centre session; helping out with fund raising events, assisting in the Charity Shop, attending Management Board meetings to represent the young people or sitting on the Youth Committee.
All of the above can be part of Saltire Awards – a way of counting volunteering hours and adding them up towards a certificate which is recognised by workplaces, colleges and universities. Certificates are awarded from 10 hours up to 500. The above activities can also be part of the Volunteering Section of a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
Adult Youth Worker Volunteering – The Drop In Centre employs one part time youth worker and a cleaner, which means it relies heavily on over a dozen regular volunteers. Volunteer youth workers are vital in helping run the three evening sessions at the Drop-In Centre.
Youth work at the Drop-In Centre appeals to our volunteers for a wide range of reasons. Among these are being part of a team, taking part in activities they might not otherwise do, befriending young people from the local community, enriching their own work and life experience, keeping in touch with a different generation, enhancing their own C.V., gaining an opportunity for a work reference in the future, and giving something back to their community.
The more diverse the range of adults in the team of Youth Workers, the more it can offer to the wide range of young people who attend the Drop in Centre. The youth workers at the Drop in Centre are a precious resource. If you think you would like to find out more about joining the team, please call or email the Drop in Centre, with no obligation.
Charity Shop Volunteering
The Charity Shop is open six days a week and there is a ‘volunteer reserve‘ list for any unavoidable absences. The shop is a great wee place, staffed every week from as ream of over 30 regular volunteers. They sort and sift the continuous supply of donations from local residents, ensuring all items are keenly priced and in good order, which guarantees an exciting retail experience for the many bargain hunters who visit the shop!
Management Board Volunteering
The Management Board also periodically needs volunteers; so do get in touch if you have some spare time and feel you can help in any way. All volunteers enjoy their regular slots; some come 2 hours per week, others 2 hours per month, some are on the Reserve List and Board Meetings are every four weeks. Contact us for an informal chat and learn how you can make a difference to the lives of local young people.
We look forward to hearing from you!
